Item Description

A very hard to find specimen from the Monarch District in western Chaffee County, Colorado (close to the town of Monarch and near the eastern base of Monarch Pass). This area is not known for many mineral specimens (I've only seen a handful of them over the years), and this piece is actually the very first specimen of Chrysocolla that we've ever had to offer from this lesser known district. The label accompanying the specimen states that it's from the "Monarch Mine", but I can't find a listing for this locality, but it's very possibly from the Madonna Mine. With that said, the piece features a beautiful layer of strong bluish-green colored botryoidal Chrysocolla which is coating a layer of Quartz on host rock matrix. Very fine condition with no major damage, save the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. If you collect Colorado minerals, do not miss out on this incredibly hard to find locality specimen. This one had a price tag of $800 in the inventory. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
