Item Description
A beautiful and historic specimen of the famous Chrysocollas from Globe, Arizona. This piece features intense green patches of Chrysocolla which are included inside of cryptocrystalline Quartz / Agate in host rock matrix. This material is sometimes referred to as "Gem Silica" and pieces like this with the vein exposed in host rock are HIGHLY desirable for collectors. THe piece is not only a fine quality display specimen, but it comes with a couple labels of fine provenance. The first label comes from the collection of Gilman S. Stanton of the New York Mineralogical Club, but the most important aspect of the piece is the fact that it was obtained in 1938 from the legendary mineralogist, mineral collector and dealer Arthur Montgomery, whose label is attached to the back of Stanton's label. In the early 1970s, Montgomery was also responsible for putting up the money to start the Mineralogical Record. If you read Montgomery's bio on the MR website ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=592 ), you can see that there is a picture of an advertisement for a sale of minerals in 1938 that included specimens collected by Ed Over in Arizona and New Mexico. More than likely, this particular specimen was purchased at the sale mentioned in that advertisement!! Secondly, there is another label with the piece from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the piece has Ford's Wall Street address, the label dates between 1947-1956. For the quality, historic significance and overall beauty, we have this piece priced at $1800 in the inventory. Don't miss out on this important and significant old timer from Arizona.
