Item Description

A choice, big cabinet sized display specimen of this elusive material from Helvetia (possibly from the Omega Mine) featuring a coverage of strong blue-green colored, botryoidal Chrysocolla showing a slightly "waxy" luster on certain areas, and good internal translucency when backlit. Under magnification, additional botryoids of rich green, yellow and reddish-brown hues can be seen. The specific minerals are not listed on George's label, though the green aggregates could be Smithsonite, and the reddish-brown is likely Goethite, but the yellow mineral is not known. Chrysocolla specimens from this area are rarely seen on the market, and to have a piece of this size with such fine quality spherules is significant. You're not likely to see another of this caliber anywhere else on the market, and if you collect Arizona minerals or secondary copper specimens, this is something impressive and certainly desirable for the locality.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 504 AZ.1; 1255. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
