Chrysocolla

Item Description

This piece is labeled as a pseudomorph of Chrysocolla after Smithsonite, but I can't find another specimen where this replacement takes place in any database. I've seen Chrysocolla after Hemimorphite, associated with Smithsonite, but not specifically Chrysocolla after Smithsonite. With that said, I'm not 100% certain that there is any actual pseudomorphing taking place on the specimen, because upon close inspection, I can see tiny spherical groups of what appear to be Smithsonite sitting ON dark blue-green Chrysocolla, but they don't seem to the taking the form of another mineral, it just seems to be a deposition of Chrysocolla on matrix with Smithsonite on top of it. With that said, if anybody out there has some info as to what might be taking place on this piece, please feel free to reach out and fill us in, because it might just be an error on the label, or there's something happening here that we are simply missing.
