Item Description

This classic and exceptionally well-crystallized small cabinet alexandrite is from the famous Type Locality in Russia. Alexandrite is the green gem variety of chrysoberyl that exibits a color change in natural and artificial light from green to amethystine (Alexandrite effect). The striking, sharp, large crystals, to 2.0 cm, rest atop biotite schist matrix with biotite embedded on the crystal terminations. Depending on the light source, the translucent, lustrous, crystals are classic grass-green turning to purple and pink. That's a cleavage face on the back of the large crystal, that shows the hard to see rich green color. Choice, old-time material. From an East Coast collection. The Rocksmith dealer label with the $2250 price dates prior to the Fall of 2003, when they went out of business. Valued today at $4000 and worth it. NOTE THESE ARE DIFFICULT TO PHOTO - MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
