Chrysoberyl var: Alexandrite

Item Description

A fine quality display specimen of the famous Alexandrites from Carnaíba featuring multiple, well-formed "sixling" (more accurately a "trilling") twins showing moderate gemminess when strongly backlit, which are sitting on typical schist matrix. The "arms" of the twins are well-developed, and most of the crystals are in really good shape. The crystals shows a distinct color change, from a deep green in incandescent lighting to a purplish-red hue under halogen lighting, These are classics from Brazil, and hard to find on the market these days. Valued $2,000 for the size, quality and the fact that there are many crystals together on the same specimen.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#10 B), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
