Item Description

Some of the most classic Chrysoberyl specimens in the world are those from Espirito Santo in the southeastern end of Brazil. This thumbnail specimen is a classic twin featuring crystals intergrown to create what is commonly called a "sixling", though there are only three individual crystals present. The piece has a pastel green color on the outer edges with a classic brown "core". Internally, it shows decent translucency with good luster, and sharp well-formed faces. It's nearly a complete "floater" as it's crystallized on all sides, but there is a small area of incomplete growth at the base. Specimen weight is 9.89 grams. A wonderful classic example of these beloved specimens from Brazil. Ex Richard A. Kosnar collection. Rich was a renowned mineral dealer and the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite. This piece was mined in the mid 1970s and was directly acquired in Brazil by Rich as he was very active down there importing gems and gem minerals.
