Item Description

Although Chrysoberyl is well-known species, there are only a handful of localities in the world that produce really good specimens, and they are not often seen on the market. For many years, the specimens from Brazil were the only representations of Chrysoberyl available on the market, unless one was lucky enough to obtain a rare Alexandrite from Russia. This piece is from a wonderful, exciting newer discovery in Madagascar (early 2013), where good Chrysoberyls haven't been found in decades. The piece shows a lovely yellow-green color along with sharp, lustrous, well-formed faces and even a bit of gemminess / translucency when backlit. My favorite aspect of the piece is that it is not only twinned - which is commonly seen in Chrysoberyl - but it actually shows MULTIPLE twins on the same piece with both "sixling" ("trilling") twins and "heart" or "V"-shaped twin habit together. The piece is crystallized nearly all the way around with only a couple tiny incomplete spots on one edge. A great thumbnail specimen for any collector of Chrysoberyls or gem crystals. Specimen weight is 21.25 carats.
