Item Description
When it comes to Chyrsoberyl specimens, some of the most well-known examples in the world are those from Espirito Santo in southeastern Brazil. The classic color and form of these crystals are instantly recognizable. Many of the Chrysoberyls from this area are twinned, but this piece is a less common single un-twinned crystal. This crystal has smooth, sharp, well-formed faces and when the piece is backlit, it shows a mix of greenish-yellow, brown and even orange hues. It's mostly complete, though there is a spot on the termination with a slightly interrupted growth, not damage per se, as it looks to be crystallized, but it's just a little irregular. The rest of the crystal is in good shape, save the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. This specimen was collected in 1971 and was formerly in the collection of Richard A. Kosnar, the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite. The piece weighs 12.38 grams. Priced at $750.
