Chromite (ex Pough, Illustrated)

Item Description

This rich Chromite specimen has at least a few dozen crystalline Chromite nodules populating the matrix. All are rounded, oblong, and reach up to 1.8 cm in length. In cross-section, you can easily see and appreciate the vitreous luster of the Chromite. This is the best I have seen from California. Adding to the specimen's cache, this specimen was in the personal collection of Frederick Pough, and was featured in his book "A Field Guide to Rocks & Minerals". Originally priced at $400 nearly 20 years ago. For what it i, this is an important and educational reference specimen.
