Item Description
An approximately 1.5-cm crystal of chondrodite perched on a nice matrix with a spray of embedded clinochlore crystals as well. Incredibly fine, lustrous, and sharp crystals of chondrodite from this most historic and classic of localities for the species. Crystals of this quality, both for size and gemminess, are seldom seen. Tilly Foster Mine, a large iron ore (magnetite) deposit discovered in 1810. The mine was 600 feet deep in 1879. Mining ceased in 1897, after 13 miners were killed in a rockslide. Specimens today are obviously hard to come by. An attractive matrix example like this should go for $750
