Item Description
An old-time, very rich and classic combination piece from the long-closed Tilly Foster Mine of New York. Numerous, intergrown and isolated, euhedral, lustrous, partially translucent, color-zoned, reddish-brown chondrodite crystals are richly scattered on all sides of the tool-worked calcite matrix. There's a textbook, 6 mm, splendent, magetite octahedron next to the largest, 2.6 cm, crystal on one end and scattered diopside crystals are also noted. This is an excellent and showy piece from this famous iron mine (magnetite ore), that closed in 1897! This is one of THE most classic and desirable of old East Coast locales. Modest orange calcite fluorescence. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection. Valued $750
