Chlorophoenicite (remarkably rare)

A wonderful cabinet sized specimen of the remarkably rare hydroxy manganese, magnesium, zinc arsenate Chlorophoenicite from Sterling Hill. Outside of Sterling Hill and Franklin the only other place in the world where Chlorophoenicite has been found is Lavrion, Greece. Despite its immense rarity, Chlorophoenicite is actually the namesake for its own mineral group. This piece features a mass of brownish Willemite which features thin bands of bright white Chlorophoenicite on both side. The Willemite glows a bright green under SW UV light, and the Chlorophoenicite actually shows a slight blue fluorescence. We used a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the Chlorophoenicite, which has formed in beautiful white acicular crystals intergrown to form irregular "sprays" and "tuft"-like groups. A fanatic and showy specimen of this incredibly rare mineral species.
