Item Description

An attractive toenail sized piece of Chlorargyrite from the famous Broken Hill Mine. This specimen features a "sponge"-like group of Bromian Chlorargyrite, free of matrix. The color is a darker brownish-silvery hue on the surface, but with backlighting shows a yellowish color internally. There are actually some defined crystals faces on the piece, but best seen with magnification. It's important to note that these Bromian Chlorargyrite specimens were formerly referred to as Embolite, which used to be a valid species. These are certainly not common on the market today, and the Chlorargyrites from Broken Hill are some of the best examples of the species ever found.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-204330.html The piece was originally in the collection of George Elling.
