Chlorargyrite (var: Bromian Chlorargyrite) (old rare specimen) (ex David Burgess Collection)

Item Description

This material for years was referred to as "Embolite", which was a valid species, but it's now classified as the Bromian variety of Chlorargyrite. With that said, specimens from the Chañarcillo area in Chile are exceedingly rare to find on the market, as most of them were found 100+ years ago. This piece is a good representation of this old material featuring micro brown sparkling crystals on host rock matrix. There are a decent amount of crystals on the piece, and they are seldom available material in this quality from this classic locale. Much more rare from here than from Australia, where most specimens once came from. The piece is from the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. There is a beautiful hand-written accompanying label from the collection of John H. Caswell of New York, along with another label from William Shelton of Shelton, Connecticut.
