Item Description

Chloanthite was once described as a species, but has now been discredited. It is the uncommon nickel-rich variety of skutterrudite. This is an impressive large crust of solid chloanthite from the historic Schneeberg District. The hummocky outer surface is comprised of a myriad of tiny, sparkly, brassy, metallic-gray crystals. The sides and bottom showy a colorful, iridescent banded section underlain by a knobby section. The bit of bruising is certainly a modest detraction to this fine old-timer. The plate has a metallic ring to it. This old-time, excellent and rare large material probably dates to the 1800s or early 1900s.. valued $750-950
