Item Description
Chevkinite-(Ce) is a rare very complex REE silicate found in unusual aegirine-quartz-feldspar pegmatites. This attractive specimen features a good sized crystal for the species and comes from the small find circa 2001 from this obscure locale above Arondu. The sharp tabular crystal has lustrous prism faces with a dark greenish-black color. The piece has a few imperfections, but is still a great representation of this rare mineral. These are undoubtedly the finest large crystals in the world for this very rare species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12952). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
