Item Description

Chesterlite is defined as white, smooth, feebly lustrous crystals of Microcline, originally reported from the Poorhouse Quarry, West Bradford, Chester County, Pennsylvania. The material was described by Sam Gordon in The Mineralogy of Pennsylvania in 1922. Here we have a four piece selection of classic beige colored crystals of sharp well-formed "Chesterlite" Microcline from the famous Poorhouse Quarry locality. The lot comes with a label from Phil Scalisi along with a label from Othniel Charles Marsh (the first professor of paleontology at Yale University, and one of the Peabody Museum's first appointed curators). This material dates back to the 1800s as O. C. Marsh died in 1899, and considering the historical significance, how often are you going to find a parcel of this attractive material with a historic hand-written label from Yale!?
