Chamosite (''Thuringite'') pseudomorph after Almandine (good sized specimen)

Here we have a notably large example of what used to be called "Thuringite", which is now an outdated name for an iron-bearing variety of Chamosite, a Chlorite Group mineral. In the case of this specific material from Michigamme, Michigan the Chamosite has replaced a very good sized, sharp, textbook dodecahedral Almandine Garnet crystal showing an almost metallic silvery-golden to black quality on the surface. This is classic material from the old iron mines of Marquette County, and rarely seen in this size or quality. Rare and excellent historic material. I'm told that this material is also magnetic, but I couldn't get it to react to a magnet here at the office, so maybe it's only slightly magnetic.
