Item Description
Thuringite is an antique nd uncommon ferroan variety of chamosite, a Chlorite Group varietal. A large, textbook dodecahedral almandine garnet crystal has been pseudomorphed by green to black chamosite and has good luster. This is a classic species from the old iron mines of Baraga County (probably 1950s or earlier). Rare, large and excellent material from the Hauck Collection. A bit of contacting is noted, but this remains a very rare, highly representative example of this uncommon pseudomorph. Sharp! Valued $750 for size and sharp form
