Item Description

Chalcostibite is a rare Cu-Sb sulfosalt. Rosettes of sharp lead-gray blades with striking iridescent luster are attractively scattered on the quartz and sulfide matrix covered with sharp, frosted quartz points. The large edge rosette is 1.6 cm and the largest quartz is 1.5 cm long. The historic and famous mines at Cavnic has furnished some of the finest combination examples of the species and this is an exceptional and pristine small cabinet example from the Daniele Respino Collection and Dr. Franceso Bedogne Collection # 1348. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=118. The piece is probably from the Boldut Mine. valued $500-
