Chalcopyrite with Calcite and Quartz

This is a gorgeous and highly displayable example of these classic specimens from the famous Boldut Mine in Romania. This piece features a beautiful, very sharp, well-formed, metallic, splendent crystals of brass colored Chalcopyrite measuring up to 1.8 cm associated with thin bladed Calcite along with sharp, gemmy, colorless prismatic Quartz crystal matrix. The Chalcopyrites show a beautiful multi-color iridescence in spots, (sometimes referred to as "peacock ore"). No major damage outside of the outer edges where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Pieces like this are not nearly as common on the market as they were years ago, and now collectors are coming to appreciate them more for their quality and beauty since the mine is now closed. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#19 RM), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
