Item Description

This is certainly the finest example of Chalcopyrite that we've ever had to offer from Freiberg. It's a showy and fine quality cabinet display specimen filled with brilliant, metallic, rich brassy colored crystals of Chalcopyrite measuring up to 1.1 cm, associated with almost columnar, stacked groups of white Calcite crystals. The matrix features a layer of small rhombic Dolomite crystals, with a layer of red iron oxide to create a vivid contrast against the Chalcopyrites and Calcites. What's most impressive is that the Chalcos are nearly all pristine, and I cannot find any significant damage anywhere. Additionally, the piece sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A visually striking and impactful specimen that would make a stellar addition to any collection, especially if you have a suite of sulfides or minerals from Freiberg. Valued at $3,500-$4,000. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#334 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
