Item Description

A fantastic old classic Cornish Chalcopyrite from the obscure Wheal Primrose Mine. This is not only the first specimen we've had from this locality, but we even looked on mindat.org for comparison, and there are ZERO photos of any species listed in the database. If you collect old pieces from Cornwall or if you're fan of antique pieces or sulfides, don't miss out on this one. Fine, sharp, well-defined twins of Chalcopyrite measuring up to 3.0 cm are associated with prismatic, translucent, colorless Quartz crystals measuring up to 2.3 cm. The Chalcopyrites have a fantastic antique patina, but there a few tiny nicks where the underlain metallic golden color can be see underneath. A really showy and fine quality example that would make a superb addition to any Cornwall suite, as I'm sure few people have a Wheal Primrose Chalcopyrite in their collections. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11930). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
