Item Description

The Bandora Mine was intermittently active from 1884 to about 1950. This specimen is from finds in the early 1980s This mine has produced some of the finest Chalcopyrite specimens ever found in Colorado and this is a great small cabinet / large miniature of said material. This piece features a few striking, sharp, interpenetrating Chalcopyrite twins at the top of the specimen which are beautifully iridescent on the golden-brassy, lightly striated faces. They are associated with black Sphalerite and silvery Galena sitting atop a matrix of prismatic Quartz. The largest Chalcopyrite measures 1.2 cm. The aesthetics of the piece and scarcity of the material make it a desirable display specimen from this historic mine, which is best known for Chalcopyrite. From the Rich Kosnar Colorado collection, valued at $400.
