Item Description

An old-time, very fine combination piece from the famous Groundhog Mine at Vanadium, New Mexico. A few sharp, lightly iridescent chalcopyrite sphenoids to 1.5 cm are aesthetically perched atop the sparkly forest of water-clear quartz points nicely accented with clusters of tiny, mirror-bright, brassy pyrite crystals. The hefty ore matrix is mixed sulfides with quartz. The older T.M. Phetteplace label has a 1958 date and was acquired from famous field collector, miner and dealer, Ed McDole in Butte. Ex Chris Cowan Collection. Very fine combination material valued at $400-500.
