Chalcopyrite on Calcite (ex Harold Urish Collection)

Item Description

A seldom seen specimen of Chalcopyrite from the San Pedro Mine in New Mexico. This mine is probably best known as a copper producer, including some impressive and distinctive Chalcopyrite specimens. Nearly all of the Chalcopyrites that I've seen from this locality are oxidized with a blue-green patina, especially those sitting on Calcite. This piece features a predominant, sharp, 1.3 cm twinned group of Chalcopyrite on whitish "dog tooth" Calcite matrix. Good aesthetics and quality for the locality.
