Chalcopyrite on Calcite (classic find)

Item Description

The peacock iridescence of the Chalcopyrite here is like a kaleidoscope and the metallic color ranges from green to yellow to orange, and locally red and blue: in lovely contrast to the stark white matrix and Calcite crystals! This is one of the best in size class, in quality and color. There is good isolation between the Calcite crystals and the amount of Chalcopyrite coving them is variable. Much of the pyramidal points on two are densely covered. This piece sits well on its own and only one Calcite crystal reveals a barely noticeable contact from what was another crystal. A sculpturally prepared periphery and bottom enhance the piece. No more of this style have been found since, and they are definitely in the realm of "modern Chinese classics" that seldom turn up for sale - only as collections recycle now. Striking, iridescent Chalcopyrite on Calcite from a limited find in Hubei, China back around 2015! Valued $2500-3500.
