Chalcopyrite specimens are rare from the historic old mines of Ugo, now Akita, Prefecture. Densely intergrown large sphenoids, to 3.7 cm, cover the mounded solid chalcopyrite ore matrix. The well-striated crystals have golden luster with some crystals having beautiful iridescence. Some bruising is noted, but is certainly acceptable in the context of this undoubtedly old, 1800s specimen. RARE and desirable old-time material valued at $1000-1500 and worth it. VERY SELDOM on the market.
