Chalcopyrite (ex Willy Israel Collection)

Good specimens of Chalcopyrite are not often seen from Panasqueira, and this piece is a very good sized and attractive specimen of this elusive material. A showy and shimmering flattened metallic specimen from this famed locale. Most of the piece is composed of large, broad golden, stepped-growth Chalcopyrite on the display side. It's contacted around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket, but you really don't see it when the piece is displayed. The specimen has an almost directional chatoyant luster when the piece is rotated in the light. A really attractive and hard to find specimen of this classic material. Ex Willy Israel Collection (#642) which according to the label states that it was mined at Barocca Grande on November 13, 1976.
