Chalcopyrite (ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection)

A classic and now hard to find display specimen from the famous Yaogangxian Mine featuring highly lustrous, metallic, brassy golden colored Chalcopyrite crystals measuring up to 2.2 cm long with minor Quartz, Sphalerite and Muscovite and free of matrix. The piece is in excellent condition and displays beautifully. I can't see any serious damage with the naked eye (only minor imperfections on the display side), and the piece honestly looks BETTER in person, as it was not terribly easy to photograph. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
