Chalcopyrite coated by Sphalerite with Quartz (ex Gary Weaver Collection)

Item Description

A lovely specimen of Sphalerite coating Chalcopyrite with Quartz from the famous Idarado Mine. The jet black Sphalerite is broken up in areas where the exposed iridescent metallic Chalcopyrite can be seen underneath. The exposed areas unfortunately are contacted, so the piece isn't damage free, but there are plenty of pristine crystals on the specimen. A handful of fine quality, sharp, prismatic Quartz crystal flaring out of the top of the piece make for a great touch. The largest Chalcopyrite crystal measures 1.6 cm long, and the longest Quartz measures in a 2.8 cm. A great small cabinet display specimen of this hard to find material from this classic locality. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
