Item Description

A classic old time specimen of Cornish Chalcophyllite hosting sharp, rich turquoise blue, bladed, trigonal crystals on matrix. The mines of Cornwall are among the most classic localities in all of Europe, and Chalcophyllite is one of the most distinctive and coveted species for collectors. Chalcophyllite is certainly uncommon around the world, and Cornwall produced the most classic and well known specimens in history. Fine specimens of this material are few and far between these days, and are always in demand. This piece is from an old East Coast collection, and comes with an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to 1946-1957.
