Chalcophanite (ex Pat Gross and Rich Kosnar Collections)

Item Description

This relatively rare zinc iron manganese oxide is known in good crystallized examples from places like Lavrion, Greece, but some attractive specimens from the Franklin District of New Jersey have been found over the years. This piece features micro, well-formed "rosette"-esque crystals of silvery-black Chalcophanite on matrix. The piece came to Rich Kosnar from his mentor, noted New Jersey collector Frances Patricia "Pat" Gross, and her original black plastic mounting box accompanies the piece. A cool specimen of this classic material. The recorded date on the piece says it was mined in 1959.
