Item Description

A rare specimen of the hydrated copper selenite, Chalcomenite, from the Tuminico Mine in Argentina. Originally, this species was discovered at Cerro de Cacheuta, Argentina in 1881 and was named after the Greek words for copper and moon. This is a great example of Chalcomenite, featuring the strong blue-green crystals on purple-black Umangite matrix that are well documented from this locality. This is one of only a handful of pieces of this species that we've seen, and comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals, which immediately increases the value. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371. Additionally, a label from Dr. Werner Paar accompanies the specimen.
