Item Description
A significant, aesthetic and rare, well-crystallized chalcocite miniature (small miniature or "toenail") from this well-known New Jersey Traprock quarry. This cutie looks like a saguaro cactus with a large, knobby arm. Both crystals are sharp, terminated, well-striated, moderately lustrous and even have a bit of iridescence. A bit of powder-blue chrysocolla is noted on the side of the piece, along with fragments of the Triassic-Jurassic-aged redbed hostrock of the Passaic Formation. This piece is from the 1990s find and is very rare in this quality. Ex Frank Imbriacco, well-known New Jersey field collector and Dr. Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and has assembled several world-class mineral collections. Value of such a rarity to the locality or species collector??? Ed valued it at $450
