Item Description

Bristol Copper Mine chalcocites are an East Coast classic and are considered to be some of the very best chalcocites from anywhere in the world. Sharp, tabular, matte-finish, dark metallic-gray chalcocite prisms to 8 mm are richly and aesthetically clustered against starkly contrasting, lustrous dogtooth calcite scalenohedrons. The hefty ore matrix is massive chalcocite and bornite. Only one broken crystal is noted. A classic, excellent, undoubtably old-time combination specimen, as the mine was worked intermittently from 1837 to 1953. Primary production was from 1837 to 1895. Mining efforts from 1947 to 1953 were unsuccessful. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. This fine piece has several display views. Valued $500-650.
