Item Description

Sharp, lustrous, lightly iridescent, dark metallic-gray chalcocite crystals form a showy and excellent thumbnail from this very obscure Queensland mine, formerly known as the Mammoth Mine. I like the way the well-striated crystals are set mostly in parallel-growth and that some crystal faces have skeletal growth. The sharply terminated crystals reach 1.5 cm long. The exact locality is the 4765 Level, Extraction level West 1, Footwall Stockpile. RARE on the market. A very nifty multi-sided piece with periphery wear confined to one end and one edge, which are easily minimized, as you can see. A fine example from the small lot we received. Excellent chalcocite with classic form. valued $750-1000
