Item Description

A fascinating, rare and excellent 11-piece deal from the well-known Chino Mine of New Mexico. This open pit porphyry Cu-Mo-Au-Ag-PGE-Pb deposit/mine has easily produced the finest examples of the chalcocite-pyrite combination. This used to be referred to as Ducktownite - a rare variety of Chalcocite, a blackish chalcocite coating or enclosing crystals or grains of pyrite. It was originally described from the Ducktown mine, Ducktown, Polk Co., Tennessee (MINDAT). 11 super sharp, floater, graduated in size complex or simple pyritohedrons are coated with lustrous to matte Chalcocite here. VERY RARE in this quantity and quality from the Art Soregaroli Collection. A significant find, as even the pit and pit level are known - 5750 Level, South Pit. The closeup is the largest crystal.
