Item Description
Cook's Kitchen Mine is one of the oldest mines in the historic Cornwall District. Tonnage production is known from 1815 to 1897, but is said to have been worked for 130 years prior to 1874, and to have been one of the most productive mines in Cornwall in 1814. This very fine fine plate is literally covered with sharp, moderately lustrous, dark metallic-gray, twinned chalcocite crystals to 9 mm. The chalcocite crystals have textbook form. Interestingly, specimens from this classic locale are relatively uncommon. Certainly over 100 years old. Ex Harvard University and George Elling Collections and comes with an old label from the Alfred Fox Collection. The numbers match on the label and specimen. Valued at $1000.
