Item Description

A rarely seen piece of Chalcocite from the famous Chimney Rock Quarry in New Jersey. This material is essentially Copper ore, but in this case we have a rare CRYSTALLIZED example. You don't see many of these pieces on the market anymore, and they are not the first thing that people think of when it comes to minerals from New Jersey. This piece came from a find in the early 1990s, when the best pieces of Chalcocite came out, along with some truly fine crystallized Coppers. This is certainly a good piece from this classic New Jersey trap rock locality (located in the First Watchung Mountain), as it's filled with sharp, robust, well-defined crystals with the typical striations and beautiful iridescent oxidized patina. From the collection of Richard Kosnar, who obtained it from his cousin in New Jersey right after it was collected.
