Chalcocite and Djurleite, gray to black copper sulfides, have pseudomorphed an impressive, large complete all-around section of a fossilized tree trunk or limb. Some of the chalcocite and djurleite has altered to green malachite, adding color and character. This is a large pseudomorph from this extinct open pit copper mine. "These logs were the main source of ore for the open pit mine, and high silver values were found in some of the logs." (Phil Simmons - well-known New Mexico field collector, collector and dealer). Hefty and rich copper ore with 1863 grams or 4.1 pounds. Choice and uncommon richly mineralized large copper ore fossilized wood from New Mexico. Locally known as "Copper Wood". Rare in this style and size. Excellent material from the Dave Stoudt New Mexico Collection, one of the few large collections specializing in this state.
