Item Description
A wonderful and fine quality display specimen of these interesting specimens of Chalcocite coating Pyrite from the famed Santa Rita Mine (Chino Mine) in New Mexico. I will say that crystallized Pyrite is rare from the well-known open pit locality, and this exceptional miniature features a few sharp pyritohedral/octahedral crystals which are coated by grey Chalcocite, with an almost "bronzy" colored patina on the surface. You might see these sometimes labels as "Ducktownite", which was once a valid species, but it now defined as a variety of Chalcocite. The piece is complete all around, nearly a "floater", and what really makes it special is the fact that there are multiple crystals present, typically we only see these pieces as loose singles, not groups. It's unusual to see one sulfide mineral completely enveloping another like this, and the presentation on this one is excellent. I honestly feel like this one is really up there in terms of "competition worthy" for it size, composition and overall quality.
Ex Les Presmyk / De Natura specimen.
