Item Description

The Chimney Rock Quarry in the First Watchung Mountain of the New Jersey Trap Rocks is best known for its impressive Copper specimens along with fine quality crystallized copper species like Chalcocite. The best Chalcocites from this locality are really impressive and not what one would expect from New Jersey! This piece is an attractive miniature display specimen of this now hard to find material featuring a solid intergrown group of sharp, well-formed, striated Chalcocite crystals with accenting secondary oxidized Malachite on the exterior. The piece is best viewed up close, but this is good quality for the locality and a great representation of the species. You can't find these on the market anymore, and any NJ collector will tell you that Chimney Rock Chalcocites are highly sought after these days. This piece was collected circa 2000-2001. From the collection of Richard A. Kosnar, well-known mineral dealer and the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite.
