Item Description

Chalcocite was a primary copper ore in the long producing history of the famous Butte District, but is relatively uncommon in specimens from the East Colusa Mine. This showy and excellent combination specimen features a rich band of lustrous, hackly, microcrystalline, chalcocite crystals nicely set amongst a dense field of needle quartz crystals. The matrix consists of pyrite, bornite and quartz. Classic combination material from this historic mine, which was consumed by the Berkeley Pit. Ex Wes Parker Collection.
