Chalcedony pseudomorph after Fluorite (classic material) (ex Kay Robertson and British Museum Collections)

Item Description

A classic and very hard to find historic piece of the well-known yet elusive specimens of Chalcedony pseudomorphing after Fluorite from the former Transylvania (modern Romania). The piece is loaded with sharp cubic crystals of what used to be Fluorite but now have been completely replaced by lavender-blue colored Chalcedony (massive Quartz). The largest crystal measures 1.2 cm on edge and for the most part, the piece is in superb shape. The piece is at least 100 years old as Transylvania was incorporated into Romania in 1918. The historic significance of the piece is amplified by the fact that it is accompanied by an old hand-written label from the British Museum! that refers to the locality as "Treztyan, Transylvania". Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8210). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A hard to find display piece of this uncommon material from Romania.
