Item Description

An interesting and certainly eye-catching specimen of Chalcedony labeled only as coming from Nye County, Nevada. The two labels acknowledge that this is certainly a pseudomorph, but it is unknown which mineral the Chalcedony is replacing. A couple of radial "sprays" comprising thin prismatic crystals that range in color from a bluish-purple color at the base to a light white-beige hue on the top portions, measuring up to 1.2 cm, are sitting on minor matrix. A cool oddball piece that is definitely unlike anything I can remember seeing from any locality in Nevada.
Ex Bob Reynolds collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7441). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
