Item Description

VERY RARE BLUE Chalcedony from this extinct mine, famous for sharp barite crystals peppered and included with dramatically contrasting red cinnabar crystals. Beautiful cornflower-blue drusy chalcedony botryoids line several vugs in the hefty layered siliceous limonite matrix plate. The back hosts section of typical barite crystals from this barite mine, that closed in 1974. Older material from the Hermann Kraft and Hermann von der Heydt Collections, prominent German collectors. Ex Kay Robertson # 8097 and acquired from the Cisneros' in February, 1977. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare, perhaps UNIQUE blue Chalcedony from the locale.
