Item Description

You might hear the term "Gem Silica" in both the gem and mineral world, but it's not actually a real species. The material is essentially gem grade Chalcedony that is colored by Chrysocolla inclusions. Chrysocolla is typically opaque, and rarely does one see gem quality stones of this material, but when it's combined with Chalcedony (cryptocrystalline Quartz), you get these gorgeous gems. Here we have a classic example of this beautiful material. This "Oval Cabochon" cut stone has vibrant blue color, which is caused by copper, and you really don't need a lot of it to get a saturated stone like this one. This would be a superb rare gem to add to any collection, and could even make for a great piece of jewelry.
