Item Description

This is a superb example of what is commonly referred to as "Gem Silica". These stone are essentially gem grade Chrysocolla colored blue by inclusions of Chrysocolla. It should be noted that Chrysocolla is typically opaque, and rarely does one see gem quality stones of this material, but when it's combined with Chalcedony (cryptocrystalline Quartz), you get these gorgeous gems with at least a bit of internal gemminess. This stone has a vibrant blue color and looks beautiful in both reflected light and transmitted light. The stone has a "Round Cabochon" cut and it's from the famous Inspiration Pit in Miami, Arizona, where some of the finest examples of Gem Silica have been found. The vibrant color in Chrysocolla is caused by copper, and you don't need a lot of it to get a really saturated stone like this one. This would be a superb rare gem to add to any collection, and would end up being a wonderful bargain.
